“Ken McBryde inspired me to think about the long term vision and possibilities for the Cowarra Tourism Precinct. As a forester I have always thought about the long term future of the trees, but not our tourist destinations where we have just delivered one idea after another. Ken and his team at Architectural Physics have guided Forestry Corporation and our project partners to envisage every hope we could ever have for the site. The Masterplan delivered by Architectural Physics is our Vision for the Future of what will be an incredible forest based tourist attraction for Port Macquarie. It has been delivered with a dream – to change the outlook on life of all who visit by changing the way we view the world and live our daily lives.”
“I felt very honoured to attend the launch of the tourism precinct Master Plan at Cowarra State Forest. This ambitious and visionary project creates a world-first koala breeding and rehabilitation program, a cultural engagement and education experience, recreational opportunities and exposure to the tree harvesting process in native forests. I am moved by the passion and collaboration that made this project a reality. Certainly this project will successfully share how to love forests for all their social, cultural, biodiversity and resource values.”

"Ken McBryde is one of our Adjunct Professors and at the leading edge of innovation in integrated design, construction and sustainability."
"Ken McBryde has had varied and extensive practice experience in Australia and overseas including the U.K., Italy and Japan… Having re-imagined the architects’ role in the construction industry McBryde established his consultancy ‘Architectural Physics’. AP is collective of multi-disciplinary. thought-leaders including mathematician and engineer Dr John Stehle, Visual Narrator James DeVries as well as Statutory Planner, Sue Francis and Building Services Ken Eppleston…..
Ken McBryde contributes to socially driven, self-funded, pro-bono projects for those who need help. Projects include those in Vanuatu, Nepal, Indonesia and Mexico and in remote areas of Australia such as assisting Stephanie Smith in measuring the last remaining Aboriginal Tin Camps in Goodooga NSW, 1991-1996. I’ve kept abreast of Ken McBryde’s highly successful career over the years….."
"Ken McBryde has many, many strengths, some of which are often overshadowed by other more preemptive design firms who often appear to have little motivation but to simply win and stay in business. In my opinion that’s not design, it’s greed.
Ken however, is the polar opposite, not only is he a beautiful human, I can honestly say that he is also a true designer, a designer who is absolutely in tune with the physical world, in fact he’s part of nature.
Ken’s designs don’t come from books of other people’s work and what is more remarkable is that they don’t just come from his imagination either. On many occasions I’ve personally witnessed his ideas come to life and it’s from his intimate and intuitive relationship with our earth and it’s inhabitants that they spawn.
Ken’s designs aren’t forced upon his clients, they are carefully interpreted from what his clients want and then sculpted into our planet.
I’ve only ever experienced this gift in one other architect, and I’ve worked with many over my career.
Ken is truly unique, as he is fluid & genuinely in touch with his clients wishes. His amazing ability to compliment those wishes into our planet is his gift to all of us. Ken McBryde, an artist, interpreter and architect for the ages."
"Ken McBryde created a range of designs for affordable housing typologies featuring engineered timber structures. A pleasure to work with, Ken is highly creative and innovative in the design process but also conceives buildings in terms of their construction, with a focus on clear detailing and buildability. Ken’s buildings are a harmonious blend of distilled design, craftsmanship, respect for nature and wide-ranging experience."
"The specialist services AP provides help prevent our clients getting into trouble in the first place - avoiding cost & time blow-outs, and/or the project going off the rails."
"In my role as major projects design & construct bid manager for a Tier 1 Contractor, I invited Ken and his team to help us with specialist independent design reviews on three projects:
_Sydney Modern, the SANAA designed extension for the Art Gallery of NSW.
Meadowbank Education Precinct, a $350m project comprising a multi-storey school and TAFE college. A state of the art sustainable commercial tower (details undisclosed)
At every opportunity, Ken and his team quickly responded with highly innovative and out of the box initiatives that added significant value to our teams’ work. Architectural Physics brought their considerable experience to bear in order to assist us in building more simply, more quickly, more safely & more sustainably. Unique multidisciplinary skills allow them to find these savings without changing the design intent. Win-Win.
I look forward to working with them again on design & construct bids for high-end complex architectural or infrastructure projects."
"...... I had the pleasure of working with Ken on a number of highly complex, technical, challenging and high profile projects including the urban design, architecture and landscape concept and detailed design of the major vent compounds and vent outlets on the New M4 motorway project, stretching from Sydney Olympic Park to Haberfield and Ashfield.
Ken demonstrated outstanding professional in his manner and skill. The SMC project team and myself were impressed with the exceptional level of creativity, skill, thought and effort that Ken put into working with us as the client to find, and then deliver architectural solutions that were outstanding in addressing the brief. Ken's visual and verbal skills resulted in successfully aligning design concepts with the many and varied stakeholders on the project.
Overall the result was an exceptionally well received project that is now built and has received accolades from others within the motorway industry as a best practice example.
Ken exceeded the client teams' expectations and delivered outstanding architectural results that will be a benefit to the NewM4 Project and the local communities for many years to come."
Commenting on the WCX design work,
“What you designed for WestConnex is pure magic!”
"Thanks ken for the acceptance and wow with what you've been up too. They are brilliant Ken and the concepts are so way ahead. I do like your work which it's subtle but, when you examine closer there is so much that is going on and it is a hallmark of brilliant designer."
"Ken, it’s great to see the works on the M4 and your ability to steer the project to realise site specific solutions - a rarity in commercial firms where cut and past details from previous projects are the norm! Congratulations, you are gifted with a persuasive personality + tenacity to move project in the right direction
July 2020 re M5: … making the ordinary extraordinary!!!"
"CPB‐Samsung‐John Holland engaged Hassell for the M4East project, to design the Architecture, Urban Design and Landscaping. Ken McBryde was the Design Lead (Architecture) for Delivery of the Vent buildings / Substations / Motorway Control Centre / Maintenance Facility / etc. Throughout the Design and documentation of the scope, Ken led the design development of the Architecture within tight, site constraints and technical requirements (constructability, supplier requirements, etc.)........ The outcome of this review was documented, for public consultation. Upon receipt of the public comments, there was further development of the design (particularly façade treatment), and a revised design (and prototypes) were presented to the Client and public for follow‐up comments.
This resulted in a Client‐approved change to the impacted buildings. Ken led this work, and was instrumental in addressing comments from the Public, the UDRP, and us (the contractor). This resulted in a superior value‐for‐money outcome, that built on the initial Concept Design."
"Ken McBryde was the Principal Architect engaged by STC for the Masterplan and subsequent Concept, Schematic and Design Development. Ken led a team of astute architects and consultants on the design over the first two years of our Wharf Renewal project.
The functional requirements of STC's Masterplan ensured Design Excellence and innovation were at the forefront of the design solutions and outcomes on our project. In a sensitive heritage and challenging building Ken was instrumental in delivering design excellence within our theatres and administration spaces revealing more of the heritage and releasing the external fabric of the building allowing it to breathe.
Ken's authentic and inspired approach to design excellence has delivered STC a design that will be delivered over the coming years and be seen as another fine example of innovation within Sydney's heritage buildings."
"Ken McBryde took over the Principal Architect role from Matthew Pullinger at Hassell, who was engaged by Gwynvill for the design development of 44 Martin Place, a state listed heritage building.
Ken listened to our thoughts and ambitions as owners. We shared the same values and thinking for how a heritage building should be maintained, improved and presented to the city.
44 Martin Place required delicate negotiations with Sydney City Council and Heritage Council of NSW. Ken's considered and thoughtful approach was instrumental in obtaining support for the sympathetic design put forward by Hassell on behalf of Gwynvill."
